BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Jn.20:19,20 – That evening, the disciples gathered together. And because they were afraid of reprisals from the Jewish leaders, they had locked the doors to the place where they met. But suddenly Jesus appeared among them and said, “Peace to you!” Then he showed them the wounds of his hands and his side—they were overjoyed to see the Lord with their own eyes!

This passage always strikes me every time I read it. The disciples were huddled in fear, they thought soldiers would burst into the room at any moment. Would they be the next victims to Roman crucifixion? Were the last three years of miracles going to be swallowed up by the death of Christ and the persecution of His followers? All of these fears vanished in an instant. The moment Jesus walked into the room that first Resurrection Sunday night their worries were swallowed up by His presence that filled the room. All it took was one word from His mouth, “Peace be to you” and everything changed, Resurrection life had just walked into the room. Here are some of the words from Bryan Katie Torwalt from their song – WHEN YOU WALK INTO THE ROOM.

When You walk into the room

Everything changes

Darkness starts to tremble

At the light that You bring

And when You walk into the room

Every heart starts burning

And nothing matters more

Than just to sit here at Your feet

And worship You

We worship You (Oh)

We love You

We’ll never stop

We can’t live without You, Jesus

We love You

And we can’t get enough

All this is for You, Jesus

When You walk into the room

Sickness starts to vanish

Every hopeless situation ceases to exist

And when You walk into the room

The dead begin to rise

‘Cause there is resurrection life

In all You do

We too are huddled in our homes this Easter season. The future looms in front of us filled with uncertainty. Will I lose my job? Will I get sick with this virus? Will someone close to me die of this disease? Will our country ever recover from this economic nightmare? The solution to our dilemma is the same as the one that brought the disciples out of their state of paralysis. Everything changes when He walks into the room. Jesus is alive from the dead and He is gathering with us every time we gather in His name, even if the gatherings are just in our homes behind closed doors.
