Isa.54:2,3 – “Enlarge the place of your tent;
Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not spare them;
Lengthen your ropes
And strengthen your pegs.
“For you will spread out to the right and to the left.
And your descendants will possess nations
And will resettle the desolate cities.
This is one of several Old Testament prophecies about the coming harvest. In this passage Isaiah is describing a time of sudden and supernatural enlargement.
Amos 9:13 – says that harvest would come about suddenly, “Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim”.
Habakkuk says that the harvest would be so huge that we wouldn’t believe it if He told us, Hab.1:5 – “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.”
Paul preached that there would be a sudden outbreak of signs and wonders…
Acts 13:41 – “Be amazed and in agony, you scoffers! For in your day I will do something so wonderful that when I perform mighty deeds among you, you won’t even believe that it was I who did it!’ ”
Here is how Matthew Henry describes this enlargement.
“If we apply this to the state of the Jews after their return out of captivity, it is a prophecy of the increase of their nation after they were settled in their own land. Jerusalem had been in the condition of a wife written childless, or a desolate solitary widow; but now it is promised that the city should be replenished and the country peopled again, that not only the ruins of Jerusalem should be repaired, but the suburbs of it extended on all sides and a great many buildings erected upon new foundations,—that those estates which had for many years been wrongfully held by the Babylonian Gentiles should now return to the right owners. God will again be a husband to them, and the reproach of their captivity, and the small number to which they were then reduced, shall be forgotten.“
The people of God were in a barren state after their captivity in Babylon. Isaiah spoke about a day of harvest and supernatural enlargement. Some of this was fulfilled during the first century of the church with sudden and supernatural enlargement. Today the Lord is fulfilling this promise around the world. I think this word is about to burst on the scene in America once again. A supernatural harvest characterized by signs and wonders is on the horizon.
