Col.3:1,2 – Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority
Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.
Today I am sharing a larger portion of scripture than normal, I want to give a short Bible Study from this passage. Verse 1 and 2 teach us the very essence of the supernatural nature of the Christian life. Christ has risen from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the power of God. We are resurrected also in Christ. We are seated in Christ at the Father’s right hand. As we fix our eyes on the glorified Christ we begin to experience His power in our lives.
Col.3:3,4 – Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ. And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed, for you are now one with him in his glory!
Two beautiful things happen as we turn our eyes on Jesus. First, we see that our old life and lifestyle is obliterated. Not only is our past washed away, it is crucified with Christ. This is more than forgiveness, it is liberation from our past. Secondly, as we look to Jesus on His throne, we are filled with God’s power. This is the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead and causes us to live by His supernatural power.
Col.3:5 – Live as one who has died to every form of sexual sin and impurity. Live as one who died to diseases, and desires for forbidden things, including the desire for wealth, which is the essence of idol worship.
Paul says we should live this new life as if we are dead to our past. We are dead to sexual sin and impurity as well as dead to sickness and disease. These temptations and fears no longer control our lives.
Col.3:10 – For you have acquired new creation life which is continually being renewed into the likeness of the One who created you; giving you the full revelation of God.
When we set our eyes upon Jesus we begin to experience the continual renewing work of the Spirit. This is the Christian life – resurrection power flowing in and through us.
