God’s word is alive; as we read it the Word of God is actually reading us. Today we will read through and reflect on Psalm 1.

Psalm 1

1 What delight comes to the one who follows God’s ways!
He won’t walk in step with the wicked,
nor share the sinner’s way,
nor be found sitting in the scorner’s seat.

The Bible clearly teaches that delight or joy is the portion of everyone who walks in the ways of the Lord. The NKJV actually says this blessing is for those who do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. One of the most important lessons you can learn in life is found in this verse, do not seek counsel from ungodly people and do not live like they do.

2 His pleasure and passion is remaining true to the Word of “I Am,”
meditating day and night in the true revelation of light.
3 He will be standing firm like a flourishing tree
planted by God’s design,
deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss,
bearing fruit in every season of his life.
He is never dry, never fainting,
ever blessed, ever prosperous.

Verse 2 and 3 describe the positive aspect of seeking counsel from God’s Word. We find this wisdom in the written Word of God. Soaking yourself in scripture results in a blessed life. This verse is a promise to those who abide in God’s word; you will be like a fruitful, healthy tree planted by the streams of joy. This is the place of fruitfulness in every arena of your life , bearing fruit in this season of life and all throughout your journey.

4 But how different are the wicked.
All they are is dust in the wind—
driven away to destruction!
5 The wicked will not endure the day of judgment,
for God will not defend them.
Nothing they do will succeed or endure for long,
for they have no part with those who walk in truth.

In vs.4 and 5 this Psalm begins to describe judgement on those outside of Christ. The Psalmist says that the wicked will not endure the day of judgement. The pandemic of 2020 is really just a foretaste of what will come to our land. This whole year is about the Lord calling all of God’s people into His house. Our safety is found in Christ and in His house alone.

6 But how different it is for the righteous!
The Lord embraces their paths as they move forward
while the way of the wicked leads only to doom.

This Psalm makes me think of the judgement of God coming on the whole earth. If you believe the scriptures, you will also believe God is merciful and He is also just. 2020 has been a year of preparation. It is a preparation for the coming final act. Choose which side you are on – the spirit of the world or the Holy Spirit. There are eternal consequences at stake for all of us.
