Gen.22:14 – And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”
Abraham had walked with God for about fifty years at this point. He was probably about 118 years old and still looking to the Lord as his source. Abraham had offered Isaac back to the Lord that day and the Lord revealed Himself powerfully to Abraham as Jehovah Jireh. This name is a great revelation of two of the most beautiful aspects of our God. This word literally means He sees and He provides. His eye is on us every moment, He misses absolutely nothing. Before we cry He answers. He not only sees but He provides. Here is how Matthew Henry describes this passage.
“A new name is given to the place, to the honor of God, and for the encouragement of all believers, to the end of the world, cheerfully to trust in God in the way of obedience: Jehovah-jireh, The Lord will provide, probably alluding to what he had said, God will provide himself a lamb. It was not owing to any contrivance of Abraham, nor was it in answer to his prayer, though he was a distinguished intercessor; but it was purely the Lord’s doing. Let it be recorded for the generations to come, 1. That the Lord will see; he will always have his eye upon his people in their straits and distresses, that he may come in with seasonable succor in the critical juncture. 2. That he will be seen, be seen in the mount, in the greatest perplexities of his people. He will not only manifest, but magnify, his wisdom, power, and goodness, in their deliverance. Where God sees and provides, he should be seen and praised.”
This is one of the first lessons I had to learn when the Lord directed me to start Victory Church. First, I had to learn to look to God only as my source. It was not family, government, or a denomination that would supply my needs. I had to look to God alone. Next, like Abraham gave Isaac back to God first, I had to give to God first. Sometimes this is the hardest part but there is a miracle in every seed. Finally, I discovered He sees me and He supplies constantly. There are miracles everywhere. So He is your Jehovah Jireh. He sees and He supplies all of your need.
