MY REDEEMER IS GOD

Heb.1:7,8 – But regarding the Son He says,
“YOUR THRONE, GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER,
AND THE SCEPTER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM.
“YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS;
THEREFORE GOD, YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU
WITH THE OIL OF JOY ABOVE YOUR COMPANIONS.”

This is the very foundation of our Christian faith, our redeemer is God. He is not a prophet, priest or king and He is not an angel, He is God. This was the very stumbling stone that caused the nation of Israel to miss their Savior. They were looking for redemption or salvation through a great political/spiritual leader. They even tried to mold Jesus into their own image of what the messiah should look like. It’s impossible to make the eternal, uncreated Lord into anything else. He is the eternal God Almighty and He is our Redeemer. This is who Job, Isaiah, David, and the rest of the prophets looked for – our Redeemer. Here is how Andrew Murray describes this passage.

“And as often as we are tempted with the Hebrews to sloth or fear or unbelief, let this be our watchword and our strength: My Redeemer is God! In this faith let me worship Him. My Redeemer is God! let my whole heart be opened to Him, to receive, as a flower does the light of the sun, His secret, mighty, divine working in me. My Redeemer is God I let me trust this omnipotent Lord to work out in me His every promise, and to set up His throne of righteousness in my soul in a power that is above all we ask or think. My Redeemer is God! let me wait for Him, let me count upon Him, to reveal Himself in the love that passeth knowledge. Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: My Redeemer is God!”

My life is the hands of my Redeemer and my Redeemer is God. He not only forgives me but He changes me. He not only changed me but continues to transform me into His image. As far as dealing with difficult circumstances or enemies I have nothing to fear. He is stronger and wiser than any devil or any sickness; none of my enemies can withstand Him. My Redeemer is God and He is with Me working on my behalf in every moment and in every circumstance.

  1. There are times that the Spirit of God visits us with His unmistakeable presence. Reading Matt 26 this morning, I was experiencing more than just reading what took place, I received a taste of those moments as Jesus and His disciples faced the unfolding of our redemption. It’s amazing how just a taste can transform us to a holy place that is unlike any other, it’s hard to contain the flood during one of these experiences. What awaits us, totally chokes me up. Praise Him.
