Lk.7:21-23 – At that very time He cured many people of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits; and He gave sight to many who were blind. And He answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: people who were blind receive sight, people who limped walk, people with leprosy are cleansed and people who were deaf hear, dead people are raised up, and people who are poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is anyone who does not take offense at Me.”
John the Baptist sent some of his disciples to confirm that Jesus really was the messiah they had waited for. Even the prophet John struggled with doubts. The answer Jesus gave was astounding. He didn’t answer with theological or philosophical arguments, He just healed hurting people confirming who He is. He told those disciples, “Go and tell John…”. That’s how it is for us today, go and tell everyone what you have seen and heard. Here is how Adam Clarke describes this passage.
“Sinners are blind; their understanding is so darkened by sin that they see not the way of truth and salvation. They are lame-not able to walk in the path of righteousness. They are leprous, their souls are defiled with sin, the most loathsome and inveterate disease; deepening in themselves, and infecting others. They are deaf to the voice of God, his word, and their own conscience. They are dead in trespasses and sins; God, who is the life of the soul, being separated from it by iniquity. Nothing less than the power of Christ can redeem from all this; and, from all this, that power of Christ actually does redeem every penitent believing soul.”
This is exactly what our past forty three years have been all about. From the first Sunday in 1979 until this present day we have been astounded at the lives Jesus has touched and made whole. The most impressive miracles are not the physical ones but the spiritual. Thousands who couldn’t see now see Jesus clearly, all of us could not walk the Christian walk and He has healed our lameness. We couldn’t hear His voice and now there is no sweeter sound. And yes, we were filled with the leprous disease called sin, He has washed us and made us whiter than snow. Jesus is performing miracles in our midst every day, we just need to be able to see, hear, and walk by His mighty power to understand.

What power on display, yet unrealized.
