Heb.13:1-3 – No matter what, make room in your heart to love every believer. And show hospitality to strangers, for they may be angels from God showing up as your guests. Identify with those who are in prison as though you were there suffering with them, and those who are mistreated as if you could feel their pain.
Loving God and loving people are really the same thing, they are both the evidence of the love of God in our hearts. Walking in love answers every question and solves every problem. This became painfully apparent to me the week I was touched by the Lord in the outpouring of 1994. I had been battling discouragement and it was effecting my ministry and my relationships. Upon hearing about the revival in Rockwall, Texas I made my plan to go check it out. As I was leaving my wife Parris handed me a book on marriage and told me I needed to read it. I’m sure the book was good but at that point I really didn’t need my short comings pointed out, I knew I was messed up.
That week I was powerfully touched by the love of God. Every part of me was overwhelmed by His love, this would ultimately effect everything in my life. The love of God consumed my ministry and my marriage that week. At the end of Hebrews Paul brings this up, it is God’s love that solves everything. Here is how Murray describes this passage.
“The word love, used of God or Christ, is not found in the Epistle. It was not needed: its whole teaching is the revelation of that love. Of the love and loving care of the saints for each other mention has more than once been made. He that enters the Holiest finds there: the God of love. The life and the blessing he receives is nothing but the nature of God, the love of God shed abroad in his heart He cannot truly enter the presence of God or enter His love without finding his brethren there: he cannot but prove his love to God and his joy in God in love to his brethren. On Mount: Sion is the city of God, where God makes the solitary to dwell in families: we cannot share its blessings in any way but as we share them with our fellow-citizens.”
I never ended up reading that book on marriage, the new first love of God enflamed my life, my ministry, and restored the love in our marriage. It’s been almost thirty years since I received that initial touch of God. God’s love drew me to His presence and restored the broken parts of my life. Draw near to God, He will restore the broken parts of your life.
