Rev.19:7 – Let’s rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has prepared herself.

Heaven is a place of unparalleled joy. Nothing else comes anywhere close. The reason nothing comes close is because it is a totally different kind of joy. This joy flows out from God – the actual life of joy experienced by the Father and Son and is so amazing that this joy is actually a person. The Holy Spirit is a person best described as the supernatural love, joy, and peace that exists between the Father and the Son. This is what we begin to taste at salvation and is the life we will live in when we step into the kingdom. The celebration that thunders from heaven in today’s verse is because this unbridled, long anticipated joy is being released on the sons and daughters of God. Here is how Jonathan Edwards describes this.

“A time of great and universal joy through the earth, when “from the utmost ends of the earth shall be heard songs, even glory to the righteous”, and God’s people “shall with joy draw water out of the wells of salvation”, and God shall “prepare in his holy mountain, a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined”, which feast is represented, as “the marriage supper of the Lamb.” Yea, the Scriptures represent it not only as a time of universal joy on earth, but extraordinary joy in heaven, among the angels and saints, the holy apostles and prophets there. Yea, the Scriptures represent it as a time of extraordinary rejoicing with Christ himself, the glorious head, in whom all things in heaven and earth shall then be gathered together in one. Zeph. 3:17, “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.”

So in this life the only slight inkling we have of what the joy of heaven will be like is when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit. The Bible describes it; it can only be comprehended by the touch from heaven. Heaven is nearer than we know, better than we can imagine, and will suddenly swallow up every remembrance of this life. Let’s rejoice and be glad in Him; the celebration is just getting started.
