Jn.6:35 – Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty.

Bread represents our basic everyday need. Jesus taught us to pray like this, “Give us today our daily bread”. Jesus also said, “Man cannot live by bread alone”. In the natural world, bread represents our daily need for nourishment. In the spiritual world, our basic need is also called bread. Jesus said that He Himself is that bread. Looking to Christ, taking Christ into our life daily is our basic way to live. In today’s verse, Jesus was unveiling the true meaning of the great miracle of feeding the 5000. He was saying that He was the meal, feasting on Him is our greatest need and our greatest joy. He is the celebration of our lives. Every generation has to rediscover the source of life, this is Luther’s description in the 1500’s.

“Out of the mass of powerful words in the holy Scripture there is almost no stronger word that Christ is a bread and meal given by God, and that whoever eats this bread lives forever and becomes content, no longer hungering or thirsting. . . . It is a settled point that here in this chapter the Lord is speaking about spiritual food, for he himself explains it as the hunger and thirst of the soul. The soul wants to live forever, to not be cursed, to have a merciful God, to be able to stand before the wrath and judgment of God, to not be condemned by sin and the law or go to hell. Those are the soul’s desires. It is a spiritual thirst and hunger, for which we need a spiritual meal and drink. And so the Holy Spirit comes and says, “If you do not want to die or be damned, then come to Christ, believe in him and cling to him. Eat this spiritual meal, believe in Christ, that is the most important thing.”

So have you settled this issue once and for all in your heart of hearts? Christ is my daily bread, He is the One I will live for. Looking to Him for physical things alone can never address what the real issue is in my life. My soul is hungry for God alone.

  1. The Lord’s judgement is his mercy.. I spent my whole life trying to fix myself only to end up worse each time, this was my Beloved’s way of grinding my will down until I could fully receive His forgiveness! The amazing moment came when I finally realized I’ll never be able to get better on my own and in the moment of emptiness He poured a Love so great in my soul that all the broken pieces of my heart were brought back together and sealed with the Anointing … I knew this is why Jesus came! My Spirit woke up as He revealed himself to me…He had already paid the price for my sin…all I had to do was surrender 🌈🌈🌈..all we must do is receive ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
