Nothing like a nice cool breeze when the summer heats up. Parris and I like to take walks on the Lakefront in the early mornings in the summer, you just can’t beat that breeze coming in off of the lake. Today, I am including three distinct translations of today’s scripture text, each one loaded with flavor. Read each one of the following scriptures, chew on each version for a moment. Maybe you will just feel the breeze of the Holy Spirit pouring over you, helping to refresh and renew you and maybe even help you catch your breath.

Acts 3:19 – NASB – Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

Acts 3:19 – TPT – And now you must repent and turn back to God so that your sins will be removed, and so that times of refreshing will stream from the Lord’s presence.

Acts 3:19 – Amp. -So repent (change your mind and purpose); turn around and return [to God], that your sins may be erased (blotted out, wiped clean), that times of refreshing (of recovering from the effects of heat, of reviving with fresh air) may come from the presence of the Lord;

This verse of scripture is special to me because the Lord used it powerfully in my life in a specific and very life changing season. I was especially struck during the fall of 1994 by the Amplified Translation’s version of this verse. I felt like I had gone through a long difficult season in my life and the “recovery of my breath” came from the fresh breeze of the Spirit pouring over me. In the Passion Translation, Brian Simmons describes the Holy Spirit as a cooling breeze. This is a comment from the Passion Notes.

“cooling breeze, which occurs only here in the New Testament. This hints of the time when God walked with Adam in the cooling breeze of the day. The work of the cross begins the restoration of Paradise within the hearts of Christ’s followers.”

The whole world has gone through an extremely difficult season the last two years. As Christians we have a distinct and major advantage over the rest of the world, we can step into His presence and experience renewal each and every day. Maybe its time for a walk with the Lord, I hear there is a special breeze blowing off of the lake.
