Rev.19:9,10 – Then the angel said to me, “Write these words: Wonderfully blessed are those who are invited to feast at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!” And then he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
At this I fell facedown at the angel’s feet to worship him, but he stopped me and said, “Don’t do this! For I am only a fellow servant with you and one of your brothers and sisters who cling to what Jesus testifies. Worship God. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Every time I read this passage I am reminded of the parable Jesus told about the marriage feast. All of the invited guests were making excuses of why not to come, so the host of the wedding celebration sent out all of his workers to gather people from off of the streets to come to the celebration. That is the time we currently live in, the marriage supper of the Lamb is about to begin and we are inviting everyone we can, even compelling them to come to the celebration. This is how Adam Clarke describes this conversation about the feast between the Apostle John and an angel.
“As this is a reason given by the angel why he should not worship him, the meaning must be this: I, who have received this spirit of prophecy, am not superior to thee who hast received the testimony of Christ, to preach him among the Gentiles; for the commission containing such a testimony is equal to the gift of the spirit of prophecy. Or, the spirit of prophecy is a general testimony concerning Jesus, for he is the scope and design of the whole Scripture; to him gave all the prophets witness. Take Jesus, his grace, Spirit, and religion out of the Bible, and it has neither scope, design, object, nor end.”
So have you ever thought about where we are in God’s eternal clock and what is next on the schedule? From God’s perspective the next event is the most celebrated and anticipated event of all time; the Wedding Feast of the Bride of Christ and the Lamb of God. Wow -Wow – Wow!!! Our primary job until the Lord’s return is to fill up the guest list, get as many people to come to the celebration as possible. There is only one catch – they must have the wedding garment on to get in, they must be washed from their sin in the blood of the Lamb.
