Ps.8:3 – When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have set in place;
I was recently going for an early morning walk and I was struck by the beauty and vividness of the crescent moon that morning. As I took a moment to look and admire God’s handiwork, I noticed a couple of the stars (actually planets) that were arranged in the sky before me. It was just before the first rays of the sun hid all of these heavenly objects by its brilliance at its rising, but these heavenly objects had already done their job that morning. They were declaring God’s glory by their existence. Today’s verse came into my mind and when I got home and opened my Bible, I saw something I had never noticed. It was right there in front of me- it says that He had set the moon and the stars in place. Everything is divinely positioned, not only the stars in space, but you and I have also been set in place. Here is how Matthew Henry describes this verse.
“We must always consider the heavens as God’s heavens, not only because all the world is his, including the earth and its fullness, but also more especially because the heavens, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; they are the home of his glory. We are taught to call him Our Father in heaven. They are his because they are the work of his fingers. He made them, and he made them easily. The stretching out of the heavens did not need any outstretched arm; it was done with a word; it was but the work of his fingers. He made them with a fine complexity, like an intricate work made by an artist’s fingers. Even the lesser lights, the moon and stars, show the glory and power of the Father of lights and provide us with something to praise him for. The heavenly bodies are not only the creations of divine power, but also subject to divine government. God not only made them but ordained them, and the ordinances of heaven can never be changed.”
“The ordinances of heaven can never be changed.” As I read this quote, I thought about their prophetic significance. God’s creation is like a fine timepiece, but infinitely more precise. His plans are being unfolded before us; everything is in perfect place. Our Father in heaven is establishing His kingdom here among us- you can be certain of that.
