Recently I taught on ministering by the Spirit at our Fisherman’s Network that meets on Wednesday nights. The Lord intends for normal, everyday Christians to minister by the Spirit, not just the trained professionals. When I experienced a powerful touch from the Lord a number of years ago I learned a lot about ministering in the anointing. I had pastored for a number of years by that time but ministering by the Spirit was brand new to me. Here are a few of the points I discussed at the fisherman’s Network.

I. EMPHASIZING THE BAPTIM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

Acts 19:5-7 – When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. There were about twelve men in all.

This verse gives a glimpse into the beginning of supernatural ministry. Paul gathered together twelve individuals who were interested in spiritual things. He taught them about the Holy Spirit and led them into the baptism in the Spirit by the laying on of hands. Each one of those present at the gathering were baptized in the Spirit, spoke in tongues, and prophesied. Emphasizing the Holy Spirit baptism is critical to ministering by the Spirit.
Many charismatic/Spirit-filled churches have moved away from the gifts of the Spirit. If you really want to minister by the Spirit you must live in a personal and church environment where the Holy Spirit is welcomed and valued. Speaking in tongues and prophesy become a normal way of life. Praying in the Spirit is the portal to that place where we can minister by the Spirit.
