Ps.63: 5 – My soul is satisfied as with fat and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.
I often look to David as a foreshadowing of what a Christian’s life could be like. David relied on the anointing, the presence of God, probably more than anyone else in the Old Testament. David lived his life as a man of the Spirit. He defeated enemies by the anointing, he wrote Psalms and worshipped by the anointing, he is even said to have prophesied on his ten stringed instrument. David was truly a man of the Spirit. One of the things David sang about was the presence of the Lord. He said God’s presence was the ‘one thing’ he lived for. Why is that so? Because where the Spirit of the Lord is there is complete satisfaction. Here is how Henry describes this.
“My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, not only as with bread, which is nourishing, but as with rich food, which is enjoyable and delicious. David hopes he will return to the enjoyment of worshiping God, and then he will be satisfied, all the more so for having been restrained from doing so for a time. Or if not, then he will be satisfied with God’s unfailing love, and in talking with him in solitude. There is something in a gracious God, and in fellowship with him, that gives deep assurance to a gracious soul (36:8; 65:4). And there is something in a gracious soul which takes great delight in God and fellowship with him. The saints have a contentment with God; they want nothing more than his favor to make them happy. They have a transcendent delight in God, in comparison with which all the delights of this world are without satisfaction or real life, just as the water in a puddle bears no comparison with the wine of this encouragement.”
So where do you look for contentment? Is it in your accomplishments, possessions, or in a bottle of alcohol? Maybe you look for satisfaction in the arms of your latest infatuation. Let me give you some help, its not there. Satisfaction is found only in one place. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is complete satisfaction. So lets follow after David’s example, “My soul is satisfied as with fat and fatness, and my mouth offers praises with joyful lips”.
