Ps.148:1-4 – Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
Praise Him in the heights!
Praise Him, all His angels;
Praise Him, all His hosts!
Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all you stars of light!
Praise Him, you heavens of heavens,
And you waters above the heavens!
Some of our most amazing blessings from the Lord so often just slip right by us. His glory is on display all around us and it is far too often met with just a yawn. Why is that? It is because we were born blind to spiritual things and can only see the glory of God on display all around us by the effect of God’s grace upon our hearts. The effect of grace can be staggering. You have heard people say that the sky looks bluer and the grass greener after the touch of God. I say an amen to that!! I also say that all of our senses are heightened by the touch of God. I often think about how good the hospital food tasted after Jesus visited me in my room during my Covid episode. Rather than losing my taste I had an exaggerated taste. I can see clearly why the sun and moon are praising Him. Here is how Spurgeon describes this.
“Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. The Psalmist enters into detail as to the heavenly hosts. As all, so each, must praise the God of each and all. The sun and moon, as joint rulers of day and night, are paired in praise: the one is the complement of the other, and so they are closely associated in the summons to worship. The sun has his peculiar mode of glorifying the Great Father of lights, and the moon has her own special method of reflecting his brightness. There is a perpetual adoration of the Lord in the skies: it varies with night and day, but it ever continues while sun and moon endure. There is ever a lamp burning before the high altar of the Lord.”
It seems to me that the sun is anxious to rise every morning just to display the beauty of our God. The moon also radiates the glory of God every night. From Africa to Australia and from Singapore to London the sun and moon are praising the Lord in their daily circular dance. Jesus said that even the rocks would praise Him – I think I will lift my voice with all of the rest of the universe – PRAISE THE LORD !!!
