Matt.17:5 – While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!
This scene on the Mount of Transfiguration can literally take your breath away. Moses, the leader of the nation of Israel, their chosen prophet for centuries, the author of the first five books in the Bible, what an amazing moment in time. Then there was Elijah, the representative of the Old Testament prophets, the one caught up into heaven in a fiery chariot, he was also there on the mountain. When the cloud came and the voice spoke Moses and Elijah faded into comparative insignificance. “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to Him”. God has spoken to the world in these last days, God is still speaking to the world today. He is now speaking to us in His Son, listen to Him. Here is how Andrew Murray describes this.
“God hath spoken in His Son! The ministry of angels and prophets was only to prepare the way; it never could satisfy the heart either of God or man; the real power of the life of God, the full experience of His nearness, the true deliverance from sin, the shedding abroad of the love in the heart,— this could not be communicated by the ministry of creatures. The Son Himself had to come as the Word of God to us, the bearer of the life and love of the Father. The Son Himself had to come to bring us into living contact with the divine Being, to dwell in our heart, as He dwells in God’s heart, to be in us God’s word as He is in God, and so to give us the living experience of what it means that God speaks to us.”
The mystery of the ages has been revealed, the Lord is no longer hidden away in obscurity, He has spoken clearly to the whole world. The revelation of God Himself has been made clear, God became a man and lived among us. He bore our sin and our shame, He conquered death, and He is at the Father’s side praying for each one of us today. Today the cloud of His glory, the Holy Spirit falls on us. Allow His presence to surround you, as you do you too will hear the voice come from the cloud, ‘This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.”
