Gen.17:7,8 – I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. And I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land where you live as a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

There has been a fight for the land of Israel for thousands of years. In today’s verse we see a promise given by the Lord to Abraham 4000 years ago. If you are not sure who Abraham is he is literally the first Jew. He had a son name Isaac, who had a son named Jacob, who had twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. There descendants took possession of the land of Israel after spending 400 years captive in Egypt. Here is how the Spirit Filled Life Bible describes their right to the land.

“An everlasting possession: The land was given to the chosen people by this unending promise. God established a covenant that is unconditional, valid whether Abraham’s descendants are faithful or not. The land belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He chooses.”

Israel occupied that land up until the time they were conquered and dispersed by the Roman Empire in 70 AD (except for 70 years of captivity in Babylon). They came back into the land after 2000 years of being scattered at the end of WWII. This was prophesied by the Old Testament prophets as well as by Jesus of Nazareth. Since the end of WWII there has been a constant struggle for the land as the Muslim nations are determined to seize the land. That brings us up to today. Over the last weekend the terrorist organization Hamas invaded Israel murdering hundreds of Israeli citizens. They are armed, funded, and directed by Iran who has vowed to destroy Israel. The point of all of this is that we are obviously in the last days. A page of history turned last Saturday, we all need to become aware of the day and time we live in. Christ will return and take His throne in Jerusalem like the Bible clearly teaches. Before that day a great harvest of souls is imminent. There will be a final harvest in the nations of the earth and then a great move of God in Israel. The question all of this brings up, how is it with your soul today?
