Matt.24:37-40 – For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.

This has to be one of the most shocking truths taught in the Bible, the rapture of believers at the coming of the Lord. There are many different beliefs about this passage and about the rapture but this is quite possibly describing something that will happen in the near future. The term rapture comes comes from the teaching of Paul in Thessalonians where he described Christians being caught up at the coming of the Lord. This may be what Jesus is describing here. Here is how the Fire Bible describes this passage.

“Christ’s statement that “one will be taken and the other left” is directly related to the warning he has already given to his disciples, which includes all who would follow Christ as part of his church. For this reason, these words likely refer to those who will be taken out of the world when Christ calls them to be with him at “the rapture” of the church.…. This event, also described in 1Co 15, refers to the time when the church will be taken from the earth to meet the Lord in the air. Those who are alive on earth and truly following Christ at this time will be prepared for this event, yet it will still involve a real element of surprise.”

Soooooooo, are you prepared for the coming of the Lord and the rapture of the church? How can you be prepared? First, open your heart, ask Jesus to wash you from your sin and come in to your life. Next, read your Bible and allow the Lord to fill you again and again with His Spirit. The end of this age is drawing near, the signs Jesus spoke of in chapter 24 of Matthew are being seen all around us. Jesus is drawing near, we need to prepare our hearts for His coming.
