Luke 2:9 – And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
For quite some time I have written a poem at Christmas time. It gives me an opportunity to express some of the impressions I have as I reflect on the birth of Christ and how that impacts all of our lives. Today I want to share my poem for 2023 followed by some of my thoughts about the message of this poem.
LIGHT
ALIVE WITH BRIGHTNESS
SHINING WITH REVELATION
HEAVY WITH GLORY
BURNING WITH LIFE
SONG
AROUND US AND IN US
PULSATING WITH GOODNESS
THE SOUND OF CREATION
BURSTING WITH JOY
WORD
THE PROMISE IS SPOKEN
THE LONG SILENCE IS BROKEN
HEARTS ARE AWAKENED
GOD’S WORD HAS COME NEAR
THE LIGHT HAS AWAKENED
HOPES LONG AGO FORSAKEN
THE SONG BROKE THE QUIET
THE PROPHETS NO LONGER SILENT
THE WORD HAS BEEN SPOKEN
A CHILD IS THE TOKEN
THE LIGHT A SONG AND A WORD
TREASURE HIDDEN AWAY IN OUR HEART
It starts with the light that shone round about the shepherds the night that Christ was born. Jesus is that light that shines in the darkness. That first Christmas marked the beginning of the new age, the kingdom of God being established here on earth. This kingdom is a kingdom of light that enlightens every person who comes to know Jesus Christ. A moment in His light and fresh revelation and a new love permeates our being.
The next part of this poem speaks of the heavenly song that invaded the earth that glorious night. This heaven song is different from anything this world can offer us, it is not only about the Lord it is actually permeated with God Himself. When you experience the presence of the Lord this song becomes part of your being. This melody and the words are in you and then you realize you are also inside of the song yourself. It is the song all creation is singing and now you too have entered in.
Then there was the word of promise, “Today, in the city of David, a Savior has been born for you, Christ the Lord”. No greater words had every been spoken, God and become a man, He is the Savior and Messiah all of us had been waiting for. The quiet of years without a word from the Lord were broken that night, the culmination of all of the words of the prophets had been fulfilled, “a child had been born for us, a Son had been given to us; the government rests on His shoulders; His name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace”.
May God’s light, His beautiful song, and the word of His promise overtake you this Christmas.
