Matt.11:28 – Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
This is sometimes one of the hardest things to do, especially for men, to actually be still and stop trying to do something about your situation. Learning to receive rather than trying to do something is essential when it comes to the miracle power of God. I had a major encounter with the Holy Spirit which was life changing many years ago. The turning point for me is when I stop trying to do something and got myself in a totally neutral and receiving position. Rather than intense intercession and desperate attempts to get God to move in my life the answer was right there in front of me, “Be still and know that I am God”. That was it, I couldn’t fix my circumstances or bring the anointing into my life. Being still and resting in His love was foreign and critical in my life. Learning to receive and not just do something was life changing. Here is how Kathryn Kuhlman described that very thing.
“In the great miracle services in the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Pittsburgh, so often I observe folk as they sit there in the pew, their faces etched with strain, their hands clenched into tight fists. They seem to be straining, straining to be healed, almost as though they are trying to heal themselves. It isn’t like that. Rest entirely and completely in the Lord. Relax in his goodness. Then, in that moment as you are thinking about his bigness, the wonderful power of the Holy Spirit, and you are looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith—suddenly you will feel that glorious presence of the Holy Spirit flowing through your body. It is not looking to Jesus through strained eyes, but with a restful gaze. It makes all the difference in the world.”
This is key to receiving from God, we have to stop trying to make it happen but just get our eyes on Jesus. Worship Him and allow His love to take over your life, that’s when we begin to be caught up in His presence. When He walks into your world your problems won’t seem so big, His greatness and goodness will overwhelm everything. That was a huge change in my world, instead of trying so hard to fix things I learned to press into Jesus and just allow Him to surround me with His love.

Replacing self sufficiency with resting in His presence can seem actually harder to do, even inadequate to our past way of thinking. “Transformed by the renewing of our minds.” His ways, higher!
