THE HEALING POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 14:16 – And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.

I remember reading an old sermon by Aimee Semple McPherson several years ago about the great “I Was”. She preached about how many Christians believe in the power of God of yesterday when Jesus and the apostles moved in the power of the Spirit and also believe in the future that the Lord may do something like that again. She preached that many believe in the ‘I Was’ or the ‘I Will BE’. The Lord calls Himself ‘I am’, the One who is present and moving in this very moment. The way this truth becomes real to us is through the power of the Holy Spirit. The power of His presence brings the healing and miracle power of Jesus to the here and now. He is the great I Am and is moving in our midst through the power of His Spirit. Kathryn Kuhlman also preached that message of the ministry of Jesus being in our world today through the power of the Spirit. Here is how Kathryn Kuhlman described this.

“God’s healing virtue, or the power that Jesus utilizes, is the wonderful Holy Spirit—the third person of the Godhead. When a believer understands the Person and work of the Spirit, it makes it much easier to have faith. Let this sink into the deepest recesses of your heart: The Holy Spirit can do anything and everything Jesus did when He walked the earth. As the Holy Spirit moves in our midst, it is like the Messiah is standing right there with us with hands extended and the radiant light of Glory shining down. Jesus returned to heaven to be with the Father, but He sent the Holy Spirit to work alongside us while He was away. “There are marvelous things revealed in John 14. It shows three members of the Godhead acting harmoniously. It also reveals that the Holy Spirit will be “another” like Jesus—a “Comforter” and a “Strengthener.” In addition, the Holy Spirit will abide with us “forever.” Instead of the Great Physician operating in an isolated community— accessible to only a small number—He is accessible to all through the Holy Spirit. Today, the Great Physician is everywhere and all-sufficient. Remember, Jesus not only has “all power” in heaven, but on earth as well.”

The disciples were fearful when Jesus told them He was going away. He encouraged them by telling them they would not be left as orphans. They were in the family of God and the Holy Spirit would come upon them and in them to continue the powerful ministry of Jesus. The disciples must have been shocked that day by what Jesus told them. He said, ‘the things that I have done shall you do also, greater things than these shall you do because I am going to my Father’. That’s the most important part, Jesus would send the Helper when He returned to the Father.
