Gen.8:22 – While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
I often remember my early days as a Christian and how the Lord would patiently and sometimes humorously teach me about walking in harmony with Him. One of those lessons happened when I was headed home about lunchtime one day when I had been out looking for a job. As my habit was in that season I picked up a high hiker and began to share Jesus with him as we drove along toward my house. When we got near the place where I was going to drop him off and head home I remember the Lord urging me to give him my sack lunch which I had stuck under my car seat. I had mixed feelings as the hitch hiker got out of my car (with my lunch), you see I knew there was no food at my house. Parris and I had just enough resources for each meal for the week and this was my last lunch, but this is where the story gets real interesting. A few minutes later when I arrived at my house there was a large package waiting on my steps. To my surprise it was a box full of food sent from my mom back in Slidell (I was living in California). It was crammed full of all my favorite stuff, I knew instantly this was a sign from the Lord, this was totally unexpected and unexplainable. That was the only time I received something like that from my mom or from anyone else for that matter, it was strictly an act of God showing me the blessing of giving. I received a harvest exactly like the kind of seed that I had planted at exactly the right time, I sowed a bag lunch and received about a week’s worth of provision.
So let’s stop for a minute and see the lessons the Lord was teaching me that day. First, I needed to look to the Lord as my source of supply. Of course I needed a job and work to support my family but the job nor the sack lunch was the source of my provision. Secondly, I had to learn to plant seeds as a lifestyle. That’s what tithing and giving offerings is all about. That day I planted a seed by giving my sack lunch to a hungry hitch hiker. The Lord brought the harvest, a box of food that had snacks and meals to hold us over for days. The Lord was also teaching me to always expect a miracle, expect the Lord to work on my behalf. We put something in His hands and He will do the rest.
