Isa.64:1-3 – Oh, that You would tear open the heavens and come down,

That the mountains would quake at Your presence—

As fire kindles brushwood, as fire causes water to boil—

To make Your name known to Your adversaries,

That the nations may tremble at Your presence!

When You did awesome things which we did not expect,

You came down, the mountains quaked at Your presence.

Krakatoa, maybe the greatest volcanic eruption in history, the name itself has the feel of a horror movie or an international environmental catastrophe. I remember hearing about Krakatoa many years ago from Dick Mills, he was speaking about the possibility of the Lord visiting the earth in a shocking, sudden display of power, in a moment of time the whole earth could be impacted by a shocking move of the Spirit of God. Check out what author Simon Winchester says about this volcanic eruption.

“The legendary annihilation in 1883 of the volcano-island of Krakatoa — the name has since become a byword for a cataclysmic disaster — was followed by an immense tsunami that killed nearly forty thousand people. Beyond the purely physical horrors of an event that has only very recently been properly understood, the eruption changed the world in more ways than could possibly be imagined. Dust swirled round the planet for years, causing temperatures to plummet and sunsets to turn vivid with lurid and unsettling displays of light. The effects of the immense waves were felt as far away as France. Barometers in Bogotá and Washington, D.C., went haywire. Bodies were washed up in Zanzibar. The sound of the island’s destruction was heard in Australia and India and on islands thousands of miles away. Most significant of all — in view of today’s new political climate — the eruption helped to trigger in Java a wave of murderous anti-Western militancy among fundamentalist Muslims: one of the first outbreaks of Islamic-inspired killings anywhere.”

In our lifetime we can remember the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980. That mountain collapsed during a volcanic eruption which was the biggest in American history. It especially got my attention because I had spent several months near St. Helens planting trees in the 1970’s, that whole region was effected by the blast.

Recently, Parris brought up the meeting with Dick Mills and his message about Krakatoa. She was sharing about this because of the tremors we have been sensing in our services recently and the rumors of revival that are everywhere. Is there a blast from heaven that is upon us? Is the Lord about to answer Isaiah’s prayer again and come down and shake the earth? There have been signs of a fresh awakening in this generation all around us, I have the sense that something unprecedented is about to break in on us. All I can say is when the eruption happens I want to be at ground zero, its time for the Lord to shake the earth.
