THE FINAL EARTHQUAKE

Rev.6:12-14 – I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.

Apparently the final judgement of this age will be a cataclysmic earthquake eclipsing anything this world has ever seen. Jesus compared the end of days to the days of Noah when there was literally a flood that encompassed the whole earth and killed the entire population of the world except for Noah’s family. Revelation describes the judgement of God as building throughout the final seven years until there is literally an earthquake that will bring devastating destruction not just to a city, region or country but literally to the whole planet. This will be the Lord’s final response to man’s rebellion happening just as Jesus Himself returns to the earth. In all likelihood this earthquake will happen as Jesus places His feet on the Mount of Olives. this will mark the end of this age and the beginning of the millennial reign of Christ. Here is a comment from Jack Hayford about this great and terrible day.

“We need to understand something about “the wrath of God.” The Bible reveals the wrath of God as an action distinct from all other ordinary judgments of God. The wrath of God is a final visitation. People sometimes say, “They were so mad, it was like the wrath of God.” Nobody gets that mad. God never has been that mad, either. The only time that there was anything close was when God turned His back on His own Son because your sin and mine was on His shoulders. He was on the cross when blackness overtook the heavens because the wrath of God was being visited in judgment upon His Son. Apart from that occasion of God’s dealing conclusively with the power and penalty of sin in that moment of breaking eternal fellowship with His own Son so that you and I might be joined to Him forever, we have no occasion of the wrath of God until the Bible speaks of it consummately and conclusively at the end of time.”

So I guess our response to this has to be, “How should I live my life if these things are true? What if Christ returns in my lifetime?” Apparently according to Joel and to the preaching of Peter these signs in the heavens and signs on the earth will be accompanied by an unprecedented outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Apparently Pentecost was the first volley of God’s glory on the earth, surely He has saved the best for last. So it is time for all of us to engage, find a place to serve in the kingdom, just as Noah did it is time to prepare a place (His church) as an ark of protection for the coming deluge.
