Heb.11:7 – By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Noah was probably living a normal life before the word of the Lord came to him. Apparently he was trying to live differently from everyone all around him who had fallen into an immoral and godless way of life. Noah literally dropped everything and began to follow the word of the Lord for the rest of his days. Two things that many of us may not be aware of was just how crazy this command from God appeared to be. In Noah’s day the world was different – kind of a greenhouse perfect environment and it had never rained before. The second shocking fact is this, it took Noah 120 years to build the ark. During all of those years it never rained and Noah was mocked mercilessly by everyone. How did Noah persevere all of those years? Noah believed God’s word that the Lord had spoken over him. Here is how Barclay describes Noah and his willingness to follow the Lord.
“He believed the message which God sent him. God’s message might have appeared to be foolishness at the time; but Noah believed it and staked everything on it. Obviously, if he was going to accept that word of God, he had to lay aside his normal activities and concentrate on doing what that message commanded. Noah’s life was one continued and concentrated preparation for what God had said would come.
The choice comes to each one of us either to listen to or to disregard the message of God. We may live as if that message is of no importance or as if it is the most important thing in the world. To put it another way: Noah was the man who heeded the warning of God; and, because he heeded, he was saved from disaster.”
Jesus said that the end of this age would be like the days of Noah. The Lord was saying that the final days would be a time of extreme godlessness, especially immorality. Our only way to survive is like Noah did, hear from God and find your purpose. Our purpose in these final days is to share Christ with as many people as possible so that they can also escape the coming destruction.
