Isa.6:1-3 – In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!”
This vision of Isaiah is the beginning of his prophetic ministry. He starts it off with “I saw the Lord sitting on a throne”. This glimpse of Christ at the right hand of the Father is the beginning of life for us. Christ sitting at the Father’s right hand was in all of the early apostolic preaching. As a matter of fact, the apostles most quoted scripture was from David’s Psalm 110. ‘The LORD said to my Lord, sit at My right hand…” This revelation of Christ permeated David’s Psalms. The Messiah was not only the son of David but also the Son of God ruling the universe from His throne. Here is how Matthew Henry describes Isaiah’s vision.
“Isaiah saw the LORD Jesus Christ; that is how this vision is explained in Jn 12:41 — that Isaiah now saw Christ’s glory and spoke about him, which is incontrovertible proof of the deity of our Savior. Christ is the One who, when he sat down at the right hand of God after his resurrection, was only sitting where he had been before. See the rest of the eternal Mind: Isaiah saw the LORD sitting. See the authority of the eternal Monarch: he sits upon a throne — a throne of glory, before which we must worship, a throne of government, to which we must submit, and a throne of grace, to which we may come boldly. This throne is high and exalted above all rivals and also above all contradiction.”
This is where it all begins for us today, because Jesus has been exalted to the right hand of God, the Holy Spirit has been poured out on all of us. Seeing Christ in His glory at the right hand of God is where we begin to receive the Holy Spirit in our lives. In the book of Revelation John was caught up in the Spirit into heaven and what did he see? Something very similar to what Isaiah had seen 2700 years earlier. Rev.4:2,3 – “Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.” Christ is seated at the Father’s right hand – I see you Lord, high and lifted up and your glory flooding the earth.
