I SEE YOU HIDDEN AWAY IN JESUS CHRIST

Mk.4:39-41 – Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

It was impossible without divine intervention to recognize exactly who Jesus was as He walked among His people in Israel during the days of His human life on earth. For those in Nazareth, He was just Joseph and Mary’s son. To His siblings, He was just their their older brother. To the teachers and religious leaders, He was a fraud, after all, nothing good could ever come out of Nazareth. Even the disciples weren’t really sure who He was for quite a while; it was miracles like this one, rebuking and calming a storm that got their attention, but there He was, His glory cloaked by His humanity. Only the revelation given by the Lord could cause you to see Who He really was. Today, the natural mind thinks these stories are just that; stories or maybe allegories that teach a lesson. The Holy Spirit changes all that. Suddenly, we see God in Christ ruling all things with His mighty word. Here is how the HK NTC describes this miracle:

“They were awestruck.… Because of all that Jesus had revealed with reference to himself, but probably mostly because of the power he had manifested, these men “feared (with) great fear,” thus literally. The “awe” here indicated was a combination of fear and reverence……..Jesus is greater by far than we had previously imagined. He exercises control not only over audiences, sicknesses, and demons, but even over winds and waves: and were saying—or, and began to say—to each other, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Much that is wrong on earth can be corrected. There are mothers who dry tears, repairmen who fix machines, surgeons who remove diseased tissues, counselors who solve family problems, etc. As to correcting the weather? People talk about it, to be sure. But it takes deity to change the weather. It is Jesus who commands the elements of the weather, with the result that even the wind obeys him, and so does even the sea.”

When the light shines into our hearts we begin to see for ourselves. This light shines into our darkness so that we can see the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. We see Him as a man and at the same time the King and Ruler of the Universe. We can see Him now in His mighty work as He saves us from our sins and heals the broken parts of our lives. “Who can this be that even the wind and sea obey Him?” He is Jesus of Nazareth, the only King of kings.
