Acts 19:8-10 – And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God. But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
Spiritual saturation is relatively unknown in our modern church world. Today’s verse gives us a glimpse into spiritual saturation and a few hints as to how this can become part of our church life. First, you see in this passage that the anointing has substance and is transferable. Look carefully at this passage from Acts 19:11,12 – “Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.” The anointing that was operating in and through the Apostle Paul was literally collecting in the clothes that he wore. The anointing would be like water being collected in a sponge. These cloths that had collected this anointing were sent out to people who were sick or were demon possessed and they were healed through the anointing on these cloths. If this is true this anointing that was accumulating in Paul’s clothes was also accumulating in the people who were attending these daily meetings.
Apparently, several individuals went out into the cities and nearby towns and started churches. These famous seven churches of Asia in the book of Revelation were started by individuals that had attended these meetings. This whole region was impacted by the power of the anointing that was accumulating over those two years.
So how can this be relevant in today’s world? First, the church needs to be open and moving in the power of the anointing. Extended worship services, meeting more than just one service a week, having prayer lines with the laying on of hands, and even occasional extended meetings are all imperative. There is no quick path to the anointing, saturation is the only way. As our world becomes darker it becomes more important than ever that we move in the power of the Spirit. Saturation can open whole regions to the move of the Spirit of God.
