SON SPEAK

Heb.1:1,2 – Throughout our history God has spoken to our ancestors by his prophets in many different ways. The revelation he gave them was only a fragment at a time, building one truth upon another. But to us living in these last days, God now speaks to us openly in the language of a Son…

Language or speaking is an interesting phenomenon. Animals may communicate with each other through various sounds and some animals may be able to even imitate human speech. For some reason the Lord has given this ability to speak intelligently only to humans. Early in man’s history at a place called Babel the Lord confused the language of man and dispersed man all across the earth. Today we have many different dialects and in Tanzania for example there are 126 different languages spoken. To eliminate the confusion there, the language of Swahili was invented to be a common language in that nation. Speaking and understanding a language is essential in order to accomplish the basic functions in life.

This brings us to today’s verse. The Lord spoke to His people for centuries in small portions and in various ways through the prophets. Today’s verse shows us that in these last days the Lord has decided to speak to us only through one language, the language He calls Son. Jesus is the Word or revelation of the Father. In John 1:18 John described this language like this, “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him”. So it is in looking at Jesus and considering Him that God speaks to us. Jesus is the revelation of the Father, the Word of the Father that became a man, and it is from focusing on Christ that we hear the voice of God. Here is what Brian Simmons says about this verse.

“he has spoken through a Son.” We speak in English; God speaks in “Son,” for Jesus is the language of God. The Sonship of Jesus is the language he now uses to speak to us,”

This is why I love the gospels and especially John’s gospel. When I ponder His life and ministry He walks into the room. Take another look at Jesus, consider His supernatural birth, His astounding life of miracles, His teaching that was like no other, his death and resurrection, and of course His ministry today in heaven. God is speaking, He is speaking in His Son.
