Rom.11:33 – AMPC – Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unfathomable (inscrutable, unsearchable) are His judgments (His decisions)! And how untraceable (mysterious, undiscoverable) are His ways (His methods, His paths)!
Rom.11:33 – TPT – Who could ever wrap their minds around the riches of God, the depth of his wisdom, and the marvel of his perfect knowledge? Who could ever explain the wonder of his decisions or search out the mysterious way he carries out his plans?
As Isaiah famously said, “My ways are not your ways”. No one could ever come up with God’s plan of redemption, unthinkable. He determined He would enter His very own creation as one of us. Not only as one of us but living in an insignificant village in an insignificant country. He would be born of a virgin teenager setting off a major scandal. He would be born in an animal stable and raised by a common worker. He would appear suddenly in His ministry; healing the sick, casting out demons, and even raising the dead. He would be executed like a criminal and after three days He would be raised from the dead. When He started His church it would be with a storm of wind, pillars of fire, and 120 people speaking in strange languages. You would have to say His ways were not normal and as Paul said UNTRACKABLE. Here is how Matthew Henry describes this.
“These are methods that cannot be explained, about which we must say, O the depth! Past finding out; or “cannot be traced.” God leaves no footprints behind him; the paths of his providence are new every morning (Lam. 3:23). He does not follow the same path often enough to leave tracks. It follows (Rom.11:34), For who hath known the mind of the LORD? Is any creature appointed to his cabinet? Is there anyone to whom he has communicated his purposes, or who is able to recognize now the way that he takes?”
His ways can seem unusual when working in our lives as well. He commonly uses the unexpected vessels and works in unusual ways. Tax collectors, Pharisees, fishermen, political activists (zealots) and even street walkers. Maybe He even has a place and a plan for you. Be ready to set out on an unexpected journey because like He said, “My ways are not your ways”.
