THE BEGINNING AND THE END

Rev.21:6 – Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

This is how the book of Revelation began when the Lord first appeared to John on the Isle of Patmos, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end”. As the vision is coming to a conclusion the Lord restates who He is, He began everything and He will bring it to its ultimate goal. I am sure this awakened all sorts of thoughts in John. He remembered how this spiritual journey began when Jesus came to him on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and how at the end of his life the Lord appeared on the shore of Patmos. He surely also remembered how all of man’s story started in the garden with the creation and fall of man. In Revelation John saw how all of this would end, redemption of fallen man with a new heaven and a new earth. Here is how Barclay describes this scene.

‘I am Alpha and Omega,’ says God to John, ‘the beginning and the end.’ We have already come across this claim by the risen Christ in 1:8. Again, John is hearing the voice that the great prophets had heard: ‘I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god’ (Isaiah 44:6). Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and omega the last. John goes on to amplify this statement. God is the beginning and the end. The word for beginning is arche, and means not simply first in point of time but first in the sense of the source of all things. The word for end is telos, and means not simply end in point of time but the goal. John is saying that all life begins in God and ends in God. Paul expressed the same thing when he said, perhaps a little more philosophically: ‘For from him and through him and to him are all things’ (Romans 11:36), and when he spoke of ‘one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all’

So the Lord started all things, He sustains all things, and He has carried us along to His ultimate goal, the glory of God on display in a new heaven and a new earth. As we live in a time when all of these things are being fulfilled all around us we can embrace this promise, He will be the first and the last in my life. He will finish what He began in each one of us. Maranatha, come quickly Lord Jesus.

  1. Thank You Jesus. You have a purpose for my life. You have and will never falter. Even if I may, You are true and will direct me back on the path You have planned for me. For You are good and never failing. Amen.

  2. What He has begun in Metairie, He ain’t done with you yet.
‬”And I am sure of this: that the One who began a good work among you will keep it growing until it is completed on the Day of the Messiah Yeshua. ” ‭Philippians 1:6 CJB
Your eyes have not witnessed what He shall do in your midst. Until now, has just been a taste of what God is going do. You ain’t seen nothing yet, what He is about do in your midst far exceeds anything you have experienced. Prepare, get the storehouse ready, mend the nets and launch out. In that day the fisherman shall stand on the shore casting your net, and the catch shall be like that of the great sea exceedingly abundantly beyond all you have thought or asked for.
