THE MOUNTAIN OF GOD

2 Peter 1:16 – For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 – For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a declaration as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”— 18 – and we ourselves heard this declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19 – And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 – But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, 21 – for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Peter is remembering a life changing moment from 40 or 50 years ago during the three years he spent with Jesus. Of all the miracles that Peter witnessed this one seemed to stick with him more than all of the rest. He had seen blind eyes opened, deaf people hearing, lame people walking and even a couple of people raised from the dead. Those were amazing events but they all had to take a back seat to this one. What was it about this moment that so radically effected Peter’s life? I believe it was the unveiling of the very glory of God that was dwelling in Jesus Christ. This was the unveiling of God’s prophetic morning star, this was a glimpse into the very nature of the Son of God. Here you have the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, the Cloud of Glory. You also have the voice of the Father speaking from heaven. And to top all of this off you are seeing the very nature of the Son of God unveiled before your eyes. This had to be Peter’s greatest moment, the moment he had become an eyewitness of the very glory of God. This was a foretaste of the empty tomb, the upper room and the final appearance of Jesus for His church. This was God’s prophetic word and it had kept Peter all of those years. It’s not what others say that change our lives, its what we taste for ourselves that settles everything.
