Acts 2:42-46 – And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
It’s really hard to understand and even harder to describe or explain but something very special happens when you meet with like minded believers to pray and worship the Lord together on a daily basis. It’s as if an unseen bond begins to fasten us together, a spiritual union and bond that greater than a brotherly bond of flesh and blood. Apparently there is a accumulating of His presence that builds on each individual as you abide in that place of prayer.
Recently our congregation has been gathering for prayer daily at our church. It started at first as a three week time of prayer twice a day, it is continuing every evening as we wait on the Lord together at our church facility. As we pray together relationships are formed and deepened but more than that the Lord’s presence is increasing among us as we continue to seek the Lord. In 1906 there was a great Pentecostal outpouring in Los Angeles. It was preceded by months of corporate prayer. Before the initial outpouring Frank Bartleman wrote a letter to Evan Roberts who was leading a revival in Wales. This is how Evan responded to Mr. Bartleman.
“I had written a letter to Evan Roberts in Wales, asking them to pray for us in California. I now received a reply that they were doing so, which linked us up with the revival there. The letter read as follows: “My dear brother in the faith: Many thanks for your kind letter. I am impressed of your sincerity and honesty of purpose. Congregate the people together who are willing to make a total surrender. Pray and wait. Believe God’s promises. Hold daily meetings. May God bless you, is my earnest prayer. Yours in Christ, Evan Roberts.” We were much encouraged to know that they were praying for us in Wales.”
Corporate prayer is used by the Lord to birth a move of the Spirit of God, continuing to pray and worship together is essential for the outpouring to deepen and expand. Let’s continue to seek the Lord together in prayer, something amazing is happening among us.
