John 6:4 – TPT – Now it was approaching the time of the Jewish celebration of Passover, and there were many pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem in the crowd.
To the casual reader the mention of Passover by John at the beginning of this discourse was insignificant, but for those with eyes to see this was a glimpse into the supernatural nature of the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Of course we know Passover marked the day the Children of Israel left the four hundred years of slavery in Egypt and began their journey to the land of promise. The night of their deliverance an angel came down into Egypt and killed the first born son in every house. The only escape was to put the blood of a lamb offered in sacrifice for sin on the doorposts of their house. The Lord killed the firstborn of every Egyptian family and the sons of all the Jews were spared. Jesus was announcing that He is that Passover Lamb.
In the wilderness journey the Lord supplied daily bread from heaven, and manna for forty years, Jesus supplied a table in the wilderness that day as the multitudes feasted on fish and bread. The next day Jesus proclaimed that He was the bread from heaven, that’s what Passover was about and also what feeding the 5000 was about. Jesus boldly declared I am the Bread of Life.
That first Passover night represented the day that the Children of Israel were delivered from Egypt, in the same way Christ our Passover Lamb has delivered us from the shackles of sin and shame.
The Children of Israel left Egypt and ultimately settled in the land called Canaan. The day they left Egypt a nation was born. All of the results of the Passover celebration point us clearly back to Christ. Jesus, our Passover Lamb, has called us together to be one holy nation. It is the work of Christ our Passover who has joined us together as God’s holy nation in this earth.
The next day Jesus got to the very heart of this miracle. He told us that if we want to be satisfied in this life and spend eternity with Him we must eat His body and drink His blood.That’s what our event called Feed the Multitudes has always been about, its not just about feeding bellies, its about filling our souls with the food from heaven.
