Mk.4:39-41 – Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
Mk.5:14,15 – So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
Mk.5:41,42 – Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement.
Mk.5:33,34 – But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
What a day!!! A raging stormed calmed by the words of Jesus, a demonized suicidal/homicidal man delivered, the daughter of the head of the synagogue raised from the dead, and an outcaste, possible a mother, healed from a twelve year nightmare. This was quite a day for Jesus, His disciples, the Gentiles of Gadara, the faithful Jews in Capernaum, and the average outcastes of that region. The miracles of Jesus not only affect the individual but their whole world is impacted.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on the impact of these twenty- four hours. The disciples began to see Jesus from a whole new perspective, “even the wind and the waves obey Him”. Then there was the Gentile population near Gadara, all of that region known as Decapolis had heard of the demonized man and now they were hearing about his miracle. Then the faithful of Capernaum, they knew Jairus and his daughter. How could anyone in that synagogue community deny this shocking miracle, their leader’s daughter had been raised from the dead? Finally, there is the outcaste, a poor woman who had hemorrhaged for twelve years and in one moment she was healed. In twenty four hours the disciples got a new revelation of Jesus, the Gentile region of Decapolis experienced the beginning of a spiritual awakening, the Jews of Galilee were rocked by Jairus’ daughter being raised from the dead. Then this outcaste woman shook the medical community as well as the other outcastes in her world. All anyone could say was – WHAT A DAY!!!
