Joel 2:23,24 – Be glad then, you children of Zion,
And rejoice in the LORD your God;
For He has given you the former rain faithfully,
And He will cause the rain to come down for you—
The former rain,
And the latter rain in the first month.
The threshing floors shall be full of wheat,
And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.
Restoration is one of the promises the Lord gives to His redeemed sons and daughters. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is the accelerating agent that the Lord uses to restore everything that was lost in our lives. This destruction and loss is often the results of sin or being in a lukewarm spiritual state. When we return to the Lord He pours out His Spirit and the restoration process begins. As a matter of fact Isaiah declares by the Spirit that the restoration will be double what was lost.
Isa.61:7 – Instead of your [former] shame you will have a double portion;
And instead of humiliation your people will shout for joy over their portion.
Therefore in their land they will possess double [what they had forfeited];
Everlasting joy will be theirs.
So what have you lost? Is it finances, promises, house or property, or even relationships? The Lord wants to restore all that you have lost. Here is how The Expositor’s Commentary describes today’s verse.
“Joel next mentions God’s supplying the people’s third need: renewed provisions–threshing floors filled with grain, vats overflowing with wine and oil. God would thoroughly restore the years that the devastating plague had caused them to lose. Whereas the locust plague had brought on famine, the people would now experience the full satisfaction of an abundance of food. Therefore, they could praise God in the full knowledge of all that his revealed name signifies. The restored fellowship would be attested by God’s renewed designation of them as “my people.” They need never again “be shamed,” whether by locusts, among the heathen, or before the whole world. Best of all they would know the abiding presence of God himself, dwelling in their midst.
It seems like all of us have lost something of value during the pandemic of the last year. The tide of the Spirit is beginning to roll in. He is watching over His word to perform it. His promise of restoration accelerates toward the goal. I believe good things are coming to God’s people – stories of restoration will be declared in the days ahead.
