Jn.4:23,24 – But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
Some say this passage is the first recorded instruction by the Lord concerning prayer. Obviously worship is a form of prayer, actually you could say that worship is where true prayer begins. As in the Lord’s Prayer Jesus taught us about beginning prayer in worship by acknowledging the Father and worshipping His name. So the mission of Jesus to the earth was to create a community of worshippers. This all begins by the work of the Holy Spirit. We are dead in our trespasses and sins until we are born of the Spirit. The new birth begins an awareness in our lives to the reality and goodness of God. That’s what Jesus was telling the woman at the well in Samaria, if she knew who He was she would ask Him for this living water. When her eyes were opened to see Jesus as her Savior her life of worship began. Here is how Andrew Murray describes this passage.
“The first thought suggested here by the Master is that there must be harmony between God and His worshippers; as God is, so must His worship be. This is according to a principle which prevails throughout the universe: we look for correspondence between an object and the organ to which it reveals or yields itself. The eye has an inner affinity for the light, the ear for sound. The man who desires to truly worship God will find, and know, and possess, and enjoy God; he must be in harmony with Him and have the capacity for receiving Him. Because God is a Spirit, we must worship in spirit. As God is, so His worshippers must be.”
We live in a world that is hostile toward God and disharmony with Him is the norm. Being transformed by the touch of God awakens our hearts to who Jesus is. When that happens you have no other recourse, you will spontaneously begin to worship our awesome God. Worship becomes a part of the fabric of your life. Just as a baby knows how to take his first breath, new Christians begin to worship and begin to flow in the harmony of the Spirit.

When the simplest of things begin to unveil the attributes of God, this comes in direct correlation to un-busying ourselves with life fillers. When we can’t really see Him or His working, it’s time to unclutter and make room in our day. No-one ignores what they love.
