Rom.6:11 – Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
The revelation of God’s word by the Holy Spirit makes these precious spiritual truths a reality in our souls. Just as you saw that your past sins were dealt with at Calvary enabling you to be forgiven, having access into His presence, and receiving His Spirit into your heart, in the same way we see the death of that person we once were. Just as Christ died for you and you appropriate that truth into your life by faith, in the same way we see ourselves crucified with Christ. The person we used to be is dead, today’s verse says to consider that as being the truth. Just as the KJV Bible says, “reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin”. So I reckon I am dead after all. Here is how Watchman Née describes this passage.
“For years after my conversion, I had been taught to “reckon.” But the more I reckoned I was dead to sin, the more alive to sin I clearly was! I simply could not believe myself dead, and I saw no way of producing death. Whenever I sought help from others, I was told to read Romans 6:11, and the more I read Romans 6:11 and tried to reckon, the further away death was: I could not get at it. In my trouble I said to the Lord, “If I cannot be brought to see this which is so fundamental, I will not preach any more. I must be thoroughly clear here.” For months I sought and prayed, at times with fasting, but nothing came through.
Then one morning, and it is a morning I shall never forget, as I sat with the Word open and said again, “Lord, open my eyes!” in a flash I saw my oneness with Christ. I saw that I was in Him, and that when He died, I died. Our old man was crucified with Him. Oh, it was so real to me! I was carried away with such joy that I longed to go through the streets of Shanghai shouting the news of my great discovery.”
This is where the life of Victory begins; I was crucified with Christ, raised up from the dead with Christ, and I am seated with Him in heaven; all of this becomes my experience by faith. We have lived far too often with the hope that things will change one day, what about now? We are dead to sin because we have been crucified with Christ and now we are alive with Him because we have been raised with Him.

Quite similar to yesterday’s message on marriage, we must first humble ourselves and realize that it is I who no longer live as an individual.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20, NIV)
