Matt.1:21 – She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.

For the last few days I have been describing the ramifications of this word the angel gave to Joseph, ‘He will save His people from their sins’. Joseph was told to call the baby Jesus which means, ‘the Lord is salvation’. He displayed this in His ministry and it continued through His followers after His resurrection. Here are some examples of His saving work.

FAITH TO BE MADE WHOLE

Acts 14:9,10 – This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, when he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had faith to be made well, said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he leaped up and began to walk.

Our faith is connected to salvation and wholeness. This man believed Paul’s message and was physically made whole.

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED

Rom.10:9,10 – that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

In Paul’s letter to the Romans he described the process of receiving salvation. He said it starts in our heart when we believe the word of God that Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead. It is completed when we declare what we believe with our mouth.

SAVED FROM GOD’S WRATH

Rom.5:9 – Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

Paul also described salvation as being delivered from the wrath of God. Simply put, a holy God despises and must judge sin. He judged man’s sin through one man, His only begotten Son. Because of Christ’s death on the cross I am free from the judgement of God.

THE WORD SAVES US

James 1:21 – Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

James described the source of this saving power, he said it is found in the word of God.
The Word of God is God’s tool to complete His work in us. Our whole spirit, soul, and body are effected by His word. Bask yourself in God’s word and you too will be totally made whole.
