Eph.1:19-21 – TPT – I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you! This is the mighty power that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm! And now he is exalted as first above every ruler, authority, government, and realm of power in existence! He is gloriously enthroned over every name that is ever praised, not only in this age, but in the age that is coming!
Jesus displayed the power of God all throughout His life through miracles, signs, and wonders. The greatest display of His power was not raising Lazarus from the dead because Lazarus ultimately got old and died. The greatest display of God’s power is seen in raising Jesus up from the dead. The resurrection of Jesus is not just a dead body coming to life, resurrection power is life itself, life as God enjoys it. Jesus was the first man resurrected from the dead never to return to the grave again. That became the message of the apostles, Jesus defeated death and we have seen Him. Our changed lives also display the resurrection power of Jesus. I was once dead in my sins but now I have been made alive in Christ. Resurrection power has made me into a new man. The testimony of Jesus is displayed in our testimony, this is the resurrection power of God on display. Here is how Matthew Henry describes this.
“The apostle speaks as if he lacked words to express the exceeding greatness of God’s almighty power, the power that God exerts toward his people and by which he raised Christ from the dead. That indeed was the great proof of the truth of the Gospel to the world, but the copy of that in ourselves, our sanctification and our rising from the death of sin, is the great proof to us. Many people understand the apostle here as speaking about the exceeding greatness of power that God will exert to raise believers to eternal life, even the same mighty power which he wrought in Christ when he raised him. How good it must be to finally come to know that power by being raised by it to receive eternal life!”
Because Jesus defeated death through the resurrection power of God and ascended into heaven where He is seated with His Father, He has now sent this same resurrection power to fill us. We no longer have to be walking around in our own strength, we are changed totally by the power of God. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead has filled us, is filling us, and will fill us again and again as we look to Him. What’s is God’s plan in all of this? He wants the world to see and taste God’s power on display in us.
