Jn.12:12-15 – On the next day, when the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, “Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, indeed, the King of Israel!” Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: “DO NOT FEAR, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY’S COLT.”
This had to be quite a scene, thousands of followers of Jesus had made their way to Jerusalem for this Sunday before Passover. Many of them would have come anyway but this year was different. The ministry of Jesus had effected the whole nation; the blind could see, the deaf could hear, and the lame were leaping for joy. There was also considerable kick back that had been building coming primarily from the Jewish leaders. They saw Jesus as a threat to their political power that they were desperately holding onto. In the middle of that those who had been healed were there to support their Lord, they weren’t sure of what was about to happen but many were all in no matter what would come next.
One of these supporters was surely there that day, he had to be. I am talking about the young man from Nain who had been dead. He wouldn’t have missed this moment for the world, he wanted everyone to know the goodness of God he had tasted by the power of God that raised him from the dead. It may just be my active imagination but I see this young man walking side by side with Lazarus, and maybe Jairus’ daughter was there too. Think about the power of their testimony, all three had been dead and now they were marching on to Jerusalem with Jesus, they wanted everyone to see what the Lord had done.
That’s what Palm Sunday is all about, Jesus putting His miracle power on display through the lives He has touched. Since you are reading this blog I suppose Jesus has done something special in your life as well. Your story is evidence that Jesus is alive and is still changing lives. Once you see it then that’s it, this is why I was born to enjoy God and His goodness so that He may be lifted up before all that hear my story.
