JESUS MINISTERED BY THE ANOINTING –

Lk.4:14 – Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

Acts 10:38 – God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

The whole life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth is really beyond what we can begin to imagine, yet little children can comprehend the power and beauty of the ministry of Jesus. We know little about His day to day lifestyle but He was on the road a lot once the miracles started. Did Jesus and the disciples stay with private friends? I assume so but who has beds for all of those unusual disciples. Many times it probably turned into a camp-out on the side of the road.

I think the most unusual part of the life of Jesus was His ministry. Remember, He had taken on a human body and apparently there were no miracles as He grew up in Nazareth, to all the folks in Nazareth He was just the carpenter’s son. When He was thirty He went to hear John the Baptist preach and suddenly things changed. He was anointed with the Holy Spirit and began to launch out into a flurry of miracles, signs, and wonders. Here is what the Life in the Spirit NT commentary has to say.

“Peter gives a brief outline of what happened to Jesus, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power.” After Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan, the Holy Spirit anointed Jesus for his ministry. The power of the Spirit enabled him to do truly good deeds for the people. By his miracles he demonstrated God’s rule over the devil and the forces of evil. His mighty deeds show that God was with him and was working through him. The apostles had been with Jesus from the very beginning of his ministry, so they were eyewitnesses of what he did in the city of Jerusalem and the rest of the country of the Jews. As witnesses of Jesus’ whole ministry, Peter and his companions affirm the full truth of the gospel.”

That changed everything, literally that moment marked a tsunami of outpouring of the Spirit that is intensifying as we draw closer to the great day of the Lord. So what about today? Jesus is still anointed having being anointed by the Father for His heavenly ministry. Today, all who come to Him can be filled with the Holy Spirit and begin to launch out into a ministry like Jesus’ Himself, healing all those oppressed by the devil.
