SEATED ON THE THRONE

Isa.6:1 – In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.

This is a picture of Christ seated at the Father’s right hand, His eternal place of glory. This is a picture of the Father’s plan of the ages, a man would be seated on the throne ruling all things by His sovereign word. Jesus said that Isaiah had seen Him in His glory, this was a prophetic look into the fulfillment of the kingdom of God. This is the message of the gospel; God became a man, He was crucified on a cross, He was dead and buried, after three days He was raised from the dead, He ascended into heaven and has been given a name above every name, He is seated on the throne at the Father’s right hand. This vision that Isaiah had was the beginning of Isaiah’s revelation of Christ. Here is how Matthew Henry describes it.

“See God upon his throne, and that throne high and lifted up, not only above other thrones, as it transcends them, but over other thrones, as it rules and commands them. Isaiah saw not Jehovah—the essence of God (no man has seen that, or can see it), but Adonai—his dominion. He saw the Lord Jesus; so this vision is explained John xii. 41, that Isaiah now saw Christ’s glory and spoke of him, which is an incontestable proof of the divinity of our Savior. He it is who when, after his resurrection, he sat down on the right hand of God…. See the rest of the Eternal Mind: Isaiah saw the Lord sitting, Ps. xxix. 10. See the sovereignty of the Eternal Monarch: he sits upon a throne—a throne of glory, before which we must worship,—a throne of government, under which we must be subject,—and a throne of grace, to which we may come boldly. This throne is high, and lifted up above all competition and contradiction.”

Today we worship this One who has conquered death and is seated at the Father’s right hand. Glorifying Christ is the place where you receive power and your life changes. This is what Peter preached at Pentecost, its what Steven saw at His death, and it is what John saw when he was caught up into heaven while receiving the book of Revelation from the Lord. Seeing the Lord high and lifted up is where all life begins.
