OUR LIFE BECOMES A LOVE SONG

Rev.4:8 – The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:

“Holy, holy, holy,

Lord God Almighty,

Who was and is and is to come!”

I have wondered about these creatures called cherubim or seraphim for many years now. I wonder what their existence has been like and how long have they been at it? To answer the first question their existence and enjoyment of life can only be challenged by the fallen sons and daughters of Adam and Eve who worship from a different perspective, we worship because we have been purchased by this holy God. These creatures are different since they have no fallen nature but they have been worshipping since the day they were created. It could be that they have been in this presence of unspeakable joy for billions of years. They know better than anyone the power, wisdom, majesty, and authority found in the One Who created them. Their job is to worship the Lord and enjoy Him forever. Could it be that that is exactly what our lives are intended to be like starting now and continuing into eternity? Here is how William Barclay describes these creatures assignment.

“The idea of nature praising God is one which occurs in the Old Testament more than once. ‘The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge’ (Psalm 19:1–2). ‘Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion’ (Psalm 103:22). Psalm 148 is a magnificent summons to the whole of nature to join in praising God.

There is a tremendous truth here. The basic idea behind this is that anything which is fulfilling the function for which it was created is praising God.….This is a thought which opens out the most magnificent mental pictures. The humblest and the most unseen activity in the world can be the true worship of God. Work and worship literally become one.…..This means that doctors on their rounds, scientists in their laboratories, teachers in their classrooms, musicians making their music, artists at their canvases, shop assistants at their counters, office workers at their computers, housewives in their homes – all who are doing the work of the world as it should be done – are joining in a great act of worship.”

If this is true then our lives have become a form of worship to the Lord. How can that be? It is because we have seen His glory and power for ourselves and worship is our only recourse. We begin to see our lives in the light of this truth. In other words I am His purchased possession and my life belongs to Him. As I dedicate myself to Him it literally becomes a love song to the Lord.
