MARY AND JESUS

Luke 2:7 – So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son,

Let’s face it, the deity and the humanity of Christ is just not logical. Man is obviously part of God’s creation, this is clearly described in Genesis where the Lord took dirt from the ground and formed a man that He named Adam. Jesus is said to have existed with the Father from eternity. This is the mysterious nature of this day we call Christmas. The eternal word of God took on a human body and came to live among us. He was born in unusual circumstances, His mother never knew a man and Christ was born being called the Son of Man and the Son of God. Evaluating His birth, and specifically His human mother Mary can help us see the mysterious nature of this supernatural birth.

When Christ was born you could say that Mary delivered Jesus but actually Jesus delivered Mary. Mary carried Christ in her womb and delivered Him as her firstborn son. Jesus actually delivered Mary who was a sinner in need of a Savior just like the rest of us. Jesus delivered Mary from her sin.

You could say that Mary provided for Jesus as a baby, she provided his daily nutrition from her breasts. In a similar way Jesus provided for His mom. He actually provides for all of us every day, He is our daily bread and He feeds our hungry souls.

Mary also carried Jesus in her body for nine months. In His embryonic state He needed constant shelter and nourishment which came from His mother Mary. Jesus also carried Mary from the day of her birth until she breathed her last breath. He carried her and sustained all the days of her life.

Jesus was born from Mary’s belly. His life as a human began as Mary carried Him inside of her belly and gave Him a natural birth. Mary was born again from the belly or innermost part of our Lord. Like all of us Mary was born in a state of spiritual death and only came alive through the new birth provided by the Lord.

So this is what we celebrate every Christmas, the amazing dependency of our Lord in His humanity and His all power and all sufficiency as the Son of God.
