JESUS AT THE FATHER’S RIGHT HAND

Ps.110:1- The LORD said to my Lord,

“Sit at My right hand,

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

Rev.5:6 – And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

Psalm 110:1 was the most quoted verse by the apostles in the first century. Apparently they believed that Jesus was literally and physically seated on the throne of God in heaven reining over the universe waiting for the final harvest to be completed. At the end of the harvest the Lord Himself would return to the earth to rule on earth as He promised. For almost 2000 years now Christ has remained on His throne carrying out His heavenly ministry. Many today rarely consider His present day work but it is infinitely important and continues constantly.

What exactly is this heavenly ministry of Jesus? According to Hebrews 8 Jesus is our heavenly High Priest called the minister of the heavenly sanctuary. This is how Paul describes this in Heb.6:19,20 “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

As our heavenly High Priest Jesus ushers us into the presence of God. This is another way to describe Jesus as the Baptizer into the Holy Spirit. He literally immerses us into the Holy Spirit as the outcome of His death on the cross.

Paul also said that Jesus intercedes for us as part of His role as the heavenly High Priest. His prayers are perfect and work in our lives constantly. This is how Paul describes this in, Heb.7:25 – “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

So think about this, Jesus ushers us into the tangible presence of God as we worship Him. Additionally, He prays for us constantly and perfectly. I really can’t think of better news.
