Heb.8:1 – Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
The heavenly ministry of Jesus is probably the least understood of any other topic in scripture. Most everyone is familiar with the earthly teaching and healing ministry of Jesus, His death and resurrection, but His role in heaven today is hardly mentioned. He is our Intercessor, Mediator, and Baptizer in the Spirit. Today I am continuing to describe the titles of Jesus seen throughout the book of Hebrews.
Jesus is THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST: Hebrews 7:21-22, “The Lord has sworn and will not relent,‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek,’ ” by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.” Our Eternal High Priest is the guarantor that the covenant promises will be fulfilled.
He is THE MINISTER OF THE SANCTUARY: Hebrews 8:1-2, “Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.” Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He is the Giver and we are the recipient.
He is THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW COVENANT: Hebrews 9:15,“And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.” Jesus is the go-between, between Holy God and sinful humanity.
Jesus is THE SANCTIFIER: Hebrews 10:10,14, “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all… For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” Because of this we can draw near to the One who has washed us clean.
Jesus is calling out to each of us from His place at the Father’s right hand. Consider this, Jesus is a man like us representing us in heaven giving us access with boldness into the very presence of God. I can’t imagine any greater news than that.
