PRAYING WITHOUT HUMAN WORDS

Roman’s 8:22,26 – For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only that, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves….Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

In this passage from Romans 8 Paul connects the things going on in the earth with the groaning of prayer in the church. To me this is a mirror image of what is happening in heaven as we approach the end of the age. I have been studying the book of Revelation recently and have been struck by a passage in Revelation 8. It starts with the opening of the seventh seal which led to a half hour of silence in heaven.This speaks to us of the Lord listening and responding to the prayers of His children, everything stands in silent awe as God hears and acts upon the prayers of His people. At this point an angel takes a censer filled with incense and fire picturing the prayers of the saints. The angel casts this censer on the earth and the final season of mercy and justice are released as the seven angels begin to blast away with their trumpets of judgement. The point of all this is that our prayers are being used to effect the world.
That brings us back to Romans 8. Here we don’t know how or what to pray and then the groaning and prayers of the Spirit well up in our bellies and spill out of us. Our prayers are released up to heaven and are poured back upon the earth for God’s kingdom to be advanced.
These supernatural prayers could be described as praying without human words. Groaning and praying in the Spirit is how we can yield to the Lord and the things He is doing and wants to do in our world.
In Romans 8:22 creation is groaning in anticipation of the manifestation of the kingdom of God. In vs.26 we are groaning as we yield to the groaning of God in the person of the Holy Spirit.
So while many Christians that don’t know the power of praying without human words may look down on all of this as emotionalism, actually it is yielding to the deep things of God. Imagine, God working through your wordless sighs and groans to bring about His amazing kingdom.

  1. Amen.
    There are no human words that can express my feelings right now after I read this blog. So, I “will” pray in the spirit. Amen.

  2. Yes! Praying in tongues affects us in a deep spiritual way. I enjoy praying for at least an hour on a daily basis. Praying early in the morning is a great foundation for a good day; come what may! I’m Thankful that God gives us the gift of tongues🙏🏽❣️🙏🏽

  3. Self accomplishment, revered, celebrated, yet delusional. When every good and perfect gift originates from the Word of God, to for even a moment credit one self or another person without first acknowledging the impossibility outside of what has been gifted , reeks of false pride. Tying this to our prayers, thinking we can accomplish without ” Help” is all the proof I need that He provided this as well.
